A few weeks ago, I finally got around to trying out an eatery in Downtown LA’s Grand Central Market that I’d been eyeing for quite some time.
Eggslut.
It’s an egg-inspired Filipino-American founded diner that secured a spot on my bucket list after I passed by it one day while walking into Grand Central Market. And really, who can resist the name Eggslut? It appears that not a lot of people can because every single day there is always a huge line that wraps around its little spot in the market. For that reason, the mere thought of attempting to eat there can be daunting.
But there’s a way to get to enjoy Eggslut without standing in line for forever and a day: get there early.
My boyfriend and I swung by on a weekend morning just minutes after the diner had opened up for the day, and there was already a line :/ Fortunately, it wasn’t too long and we only waited for several minutes before we were able to place our order. (While waiting, it’s a good idea to browse through the menu and pick what you’d like to eat.)
Eggslut’s menu is fairly simple. It’s divided into a breakfast menu, lunch menu, and drinks, with a total of less than a dozen food items to choose from. That’s a plus because it makes it easier to decide on something to order.
We picked the sausage, egg & cheese sandwich, and of course, we asked for a slut. (See second image below.)
We were also lucky enough to grab two seats on the counter, just as two other people had just wrapped up their meals. Getting to sit on the counter is really a tough shot. But if you’re unable to sit up front, there’s an abundance of seating throughout Grand Central Market.
This place receives a lot of hype, but disregarding that, it’s a worthwhile eatery to check out, because how many egg-inspired restaurants are out there? The food is delicious, and we have every intention of returning to try the other menu items.
Eggslut is located at:
317 S Broadway 40
Los Angeles, CA 90013
It’s easily accessible via public transit (check out www.metro.net to plan your trip via bus or the Red Line), but if you choose to drive, bring $10 extra cash for parking. (It’s usually less, but it’s a good amount to have just to be on the safe side).
