Poppy + Rose: an unexpected find in LA’s Flower District

Poppy Rose

Several weeks ago, my boyfriend and I were wandering around Downtown LA in search of a place to grab some breakfast. We were planning on stopping by an exhibit called “Petal Drop LA (01),” put on by an anonymous art collective. But when we arrived, the line was wrapped aaaaaalllll around the block.

So we left.

It would’ve been really cool to see that and I was actually kind of bummed we missed it, but we underestimated how long that line would be and decided to feed our bellies instead.

Somehow, we wound up in the Fashion District, which was super empty.

After spending some time browsing through Yelp on our phones, we opted to go to a 4-star-rated place called Poppy + Rose in LA’s Flower District.

Whaaaaat. The. Heck! We were so amazed that a place like this existed in the area! If you’ve ever been in the Fashion/Flower District, you know it’s not the prettiest area in the City of Angels. (Still – it’s the best place to go to score bargains on clothes and flowers. But that’s another topic.)

The environment in Poppy + Rose is totally different: it’s really warm and inviting, with wooden tables and chairs decorated with vases containing pink flowers.

Poppy + Rose is a great breakfast/lunch/brunch spot with a healthy breakfast and lunch menu of classic American food served all day. The menu is pretty wonderful, too, because it’s one page long, which makes it easier and quicker to decide on what to order!

The food is great and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients the restaurant uses. My boyfriend and I ordered the rib tips breakfast burrito and market scramble.

Rib tips breakfast burrito – ribs, eggs, cheese, brick hash, house crème fraîche, BBQ sauce, mixed greens. So good!

Poppy Rose
Market scramble – mushroom, bacon, caramelized onions, gouda, toast and mixed greens. Yum!

We both walked out of the place very satisfied, and it’s a place we both recommend to people looking for a place to eat in that area.

Poppy + Rose is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check out their website for more info!
